Molja Lighthouse, established in 1858, functions as a harbor lighthouse and has an important historical significance for navigation in the Ålesund area. The lighthouse was automated and demanned in 1889, which has made it possible to preserve the building as a cultural monument. A new beacon was mounted on the tower to maintain its functionality as a navigational aid for seafarers.

The lighthouse is owned by the State, the Coastal Administration, and is open to visitors who want to learn more about lighthouse history and navigation. Molja Lighthouse also offers accommodation options for guests, which gives a unique experience of living in a historic lighthouse. The visitor facilities make it an attractive destination for tourists who want to explore the coastal culture of the area.
