Intermunicipal archive for Møre og Romsdal IKS, established in April 2000, has its head office in Ålesund. The company is owned by the county council and all the municipalities in Møre and Romsdal, from Volda in the south to Smøla in the north. The archive focuses on archive creation, preservation and document management for the municipalities in the county.
The services include digitization of archive material, access to archives and documentation, as well as a reading room for the public. In addition, the archive offers lectures, courses and training in archive management. The county PHOTO archive provides access to historical images, and it is a collaboration with doctoral research fellows. The archive emphasizes privacy and rights documentation, and organizes activities such as World Photography Day to promote cultural heritage and historical perspective.
