Alta Airport (ALF) is located in the Elvebakken district, 3.5 km east of Alta city centre. The airport is owned and operated by Avinor AS and opened on 4 May 1963. Together with Kirkenes Airport, Høybuktmoen and Lakselv Airport, Banak, it became part of the development of the aviation infrastructure in the region. The terminal building used today was inaugurated on 25 August 2009.
The airport is the largest in Finnmark in terms of passenger numbers, with 378,891 travellers in 2017, an increase from 303,828 passengers in 2004. Alta Airport is served by several airlines, including SAS, Widerøe and Norwegian. It has one paved runway measuring 2,057 metres, and transport to and from the airport is provided by airport bus and taxi.
