Lávgu (Álttá sámi giella-ja kulturguovddáš) AS is a language and culture center in Alta with a focus on Sami language and culture. The center aims to promote, strengthen and preserve the Sami language, especially in Alta municipality. Lávgu offers a varied program of activities aimed at all age groups, from children to the elderly, and has a special emphasis on making Sea Sami history and traditions visible.
Among the offers are Sami language courses for beginners, which are organized every autumn, as well as permanent language arena projects that run throughout the year. The center also organizes cultural activities that are open to anyone who wants to learn more about Sami culture. In addition to language learning, Lávgu offers a Sami language cafe for socializing and language training, as well as a Sea Sami week with duodji course and language dinner. The center works actively to collect and preserve Sami place names and patterns, and has a strong focus on diversity and inclusion in the Sami environment.
