Pynten, which is part of the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research, is the largest marine research institute in Europe. The institute has a long history, with 125 years of operation, and has established itself as an important player in research, consultancy and monitoring of marine resources. Pynten focuses on long-term monitoring plans for the marine environment, as well as research on aquaculture and sustainable seafood.
In addition to its research work, Pynten collaborates with developing countries to strengthen marine research globally. The institute has its own research stations and laboratories along the coast, which provides opportunities for comprehensive studies of marine ecosystems. Pynten also emphasizes dialogue and cooperation with local stakeholders, and publishes reports and publications that are available to the public.
