Bergen Barneasyl, established in 1841, is the oldest kindergarten in Bergen. The building, which is listed and dates back to 1752, is the largest wooden building from the 18th century in the area. The kindergarten has four departments and welcomes around 60 children, which provides a varied and inclusive environment.
The kindergarten has a strong connection to the city's cultural offerings and facilitates regular excursions. One department, known as "Huset i skogen", functions as a hiking group and gives children the opportunity to experience outdoor life and nature experiences. There is also a focus on culture and life in the city center, which gives children a unique understanding of their local environment. A facelift of the building and a complete renovation of the outdoor area are planned for 2025.
