Reading kiosk is an initiative that aims to promote reading and culture through a unique book exchange. In 2020, approximately 60 reading kiosks were launched across Norway, one of which is located in Bergen. These kiosks have been converted from Televerket's classic red telephone booths and are equipped with bookshelves. The concept is based on the principle of "give a book, take a book", which encourages the sharing and accessibility of literature.
The kiosks have been given a visual profile designed to attract readers, and some of them need sponsors to become operational. The project has received support from the Minister of Culture and the National Library, which underlines its importance in strengthening the reading culture in society. The reading kiosks represent a new and creative initiative to make books more accessible to the general public.
