Norges Vel is a non-profit and independent organization focused on developing a sustainable food sector both in Norway and internationally. The organization, which has been active since 1809, works throughout the food value chain and has offices in several countries, including Mozambique and Tanzania. In Bergen, Norges Vel has a regional office specializing in marine value chains, with particular emphasis on the cultivation of macroalgae and the development of new value chains based on marine residual raw materials.
The organization is engaged in projects that promote renewable energy in agriculture, as well as plant diversity and soil health. Norges Vel also offers support to cooperatives and entrepreneurs, and administers grants and awards for innovation. In addition, they are active in the work on national and international food security, and participate in projects for sustainable development. The office in Bergen also has initiatives in the field of tourism, including the network Håndlaget.
