The Kalmarhuset condominium is a residential building in Bergen, designed by architect Leif Grung in 1936. The building is considered an outstanding example of functionalist architecture, characterized by a curved shape that is adapted to the planned highway. Kalmarhuset has a characteristic tower that creates a visual distinction between the residential part and the office wing, which contributes to the building's unique profile in the cityscape.
The building is listed, and restrictions have been introduced against changes to the facade to preserve its historical value. In addition, Kalmarhuset has an interesting history, as it has previously been used as a Bed & Breakfast and a hospital during World War II. In the main entrance there is an exhibition that provides insight into the history and architecture of the building, and there are also similarities with the works of the famous architect Erich Mendelsohn.
