The street magazine Megafon was established in Bergen in 2007 and has served as a platform for socially and economically disadvantaged people over the age of 18. The magazine has been sold by people with substance abuse problems and psychiatric histories, and has aimed to offer an honest income opportunity. Through the sale of the magazine, Megafon has focused on giving dignity to its sellers and creating alternatives to crime and prostitution.
Megafon has also been an important voice for marginalized groups in society, and has contributed to increased awareness of substance abuse problems, especially among young people. The magazine has been a platform for highlighting societal problems related to substance abuse. The business ended its operations with a final publication in 2019, but has had a significant impact on the local community and those who have participated in the project. Today, the magazine is sold across large parts of Western Norway, from Molde in the north to Leirvik in the south.
