The Leprosy Museum St. Jørgens Hospital is located in Bergen and is a cultural monument from the 18th century. The museum offers an authentic experience of a historic hospital environment, where visitors can learn about the history of leprosy in Norway and the medical breakthroughs that took place, especially the discovery of the leprosy bacillus in 1873. Through exhibitions and information materials, the social conditions, stigmas and individual destinies linked to the disease are also illuminated.
The museum offers both guided tours and self-guided tours, which enable visitors to explore the contents at their own pace. The Leprosy Museum St. Jørgens Hospital is adapted to adults, older children and young people, and information is available in several languages, including Norwegian, English, German, French and Spanish.
