The main task of the Vestlandet pilotage crew is to ensure safe and efficient traffic along the coast. This includes national preparedness against acute pollution, as well as mapping damage to lighthouses and seamarks. The office is actively working to deal with environmental challenges, such as mercury in the wreck of U-864.
In addition to preparedness work, the Vestlandet pilotage crew offers digital services, such as ordering pilots. They also participate in cooperation through exercises, including in Svalbard, to strengthen preparedness and handle safety-threatening incidents. A 3D model of Blücher is available for divers, which allows for the exploration of historical wrecks. The office's focus on critical conditions contributes to the continuous improvement of safety along the coast.
