The West Norwegian Theatre, formerly known as Hordaland Theatre, was established in 1988 and is a regional theatre with Nynorsk as its administrative language. The theatre has a strong foundation in the West Norwegian identity and focuses on local stories, with a focus on new drama. It has a permanent stage in the centre of Bergen, in Logen, where it offers a varied programme of performances and events.
The theatre is known for its family-friendly performances and has a black box stage called Scene 2, which is currently being renovated and expanded. In addition to traditional theatre performances, the West Norwegian Theatre organises various cultural activities such as SLAM! poetry evening, magic pub and musical pub. The theatre also collaborates with Kompani Aasen to offer improvisational theatre, and has special events such as Halloweenhus for the whole family. The theatre's culture bar, Skifte, contributes to the social environment surrounding the performances.
