The Grieg Academy Department of Music at the University of Bergen is part of the Faculty of Art, Music and Design. The institution has an international focus on teaching and offers specialization in music therapy. This academic department is known for its extensive research on music therapy and health, and has established the Grieg Academy Music Therapy Research Centre (GAMUT) as a central unit for this work.
In addition to research, Grieg Academy collaborates with municipalities and health care through the POLYFON knowledge cluster, which helps to integrate academic knowledge with practical applications. The faculty also publishes two international journals, the Nordic Journal of Music Therapy and Voices: A World Forum for Music Therapy, which promote research and discussion in the field.
