The University of Bergen is an educational institution with nearly 21,000 students and over 4,200 employees. The university has a strong focus on sustainability and research-based innovation, and collaborates with, among others, the Bergen International Film Festival (BIFF). In 2025, the University Museum will celebrate its 200th anniversary, which underlines the institution's long history in research and education.
The campus consists of both historical and modern buildings, and is adorned with sculptures and works of art. A new Grieg Academy is under construction, supported by 300 million kroner from the state budget. In addition, the university has a Center for Deep Sea Innovation that explores the secrets of the deep sea. The academic community includes, among others, a professor of medieval archaeology, who focuses on the significance of the past. The university also offers exciting lectures in the Tower Hall, which is part of the cultural offer.
