Nordland Research Institute (NRI) is a research institute located in Northern Norway. The institute has an interdisciplinary focus on social sciences, particularly aimed at the Arctic and the Arctic. NRI leads both national and international research projects, and collaborates closely with local communities, authorities, business and other research organisations. The institute's aim is to co-produce relevant knowledge for people, society and politics.
The research at NRI covers several areas, including sustainability and restructuring, visitor management in Vesterålen, as well as living conditions for queer people in Norway. The institute actively participates in community development, including through events such as Arendalsuka and Trænafestivalen. NRI also publishes research on climate change, social justice, the psychosocial working environment on board vessels, as well as research on bogs and local food in Nordland.
