Salten Regional Council is an administrative unit that includes the ten municipalities of Beiarn, Bodø, Fauske, Gildeskål, Hamarøy, Meløy, Rødøy, Saltdal, Steigen and Sørfold. The region has an area of 11,093.77 km², which corresponds to the size of Østfold, Vestfold, Akershus and Oslo combined. Salten is located in central Norway, with the same distance from Fauske to both Oslo and the North Cape.
At the end of 2017, Salten had a population of approximately 83,000 inhabitants. Of these, approximately 74% lived in the two city municipalities, of which 62% lived in Bodø and 12% in Fauske. The remaining population is distributed among the seven other municipalities in the region. The salt is known for its varied nature, which includes national parks, a long coastline, Norway's second largest glacier, as well as a rich archipelago and archipelago. The region also offers a varied cultural offer.
