The Landfaldøy Bridge was originally built in 1867 by Halvor Heyerdahl and Guttormsen. Built with a combination of private funds, savings banks and municipal grants, the bridge served an important function by connecting traders on Landfalløya with business contacts on the mainland. The original bridge was a bascule bridge that charged a toll for ship passage.
After the war, the bridge was rebuilt as a concrete bridge, which was opened on 15. The old bascule span from the original bridge was preserved as a historical monument, and a copy of this bascule span is now part of the new bridge. This helps to preserve the historical significance of the Landfaldøy Bridge in the area.
