The Middle Gate is a historical tourist attraction in Fredrikstad, built in 1727 with grey stone and clinker walls. It is the middle of the fortress's three gates facing the Glomma River and has a significant place in the city's history. The original wooden gate is mentioned in connection with the city fire in 1690, and the building was erected by master mason Düring according to the same drawing as the Ferry Gate.
The gate's current appearance was created after the city fire in 1764, and it is an important element of Fredrikstad's fortifications. The bluestone used for the gate comes from Fredrikshald. The Middle Gate thus represents both architectural and historical value, and is part of the city's cultural heritage.
