The main task of the Norwegian Nature Conservation Authority (SNO) Halden branch is to manage and monitor natural resources in the region. The branch works to ensure sustainable use of nature, as well as to safeguard wildlife and biodiversity. SNO is responsible for supervising hunting, fishing and outdoor activities, and helps to inform the public about rules and guidelines related to nature management.
In addition to supervisory work, the branch participates in various projects and collaborations that aim to promote knowledge about nature and the environment. This includes, among other things, mapping species and habitats, as well as measures to protect endangered species. SNO Halden branch is part of a national network that works to preserve Norway's unique natural values.
