Sjøgren gjenvinning AS was established on May 23, 1946 by Herman Sjøgren, who had roots from Kalix in Norbotten, Sweden. The company was originally known as H. Sjøgren & Sønner. Herman Sjøgren was a Hammerfester, and his family history in the area dates back to 1834, when his ancestor, Nils Sjøgren, came to Hammerfest from Tornedalen. Nils Sjøgren sought out the copper mines in Kåfjord, but died only four years after arriving.
