Nordre Hauge Cemetery was established in 1876 and is one of six cemeteries in Haugesund. The cemetery is part of the city's historic cemeteries, which include several other renowned cemeteries. Among these are Vår Frelsers Gravlund, which was established in 1911 and is the largest of the cemeteries, as well as Christine Elisabeths Gravlund from 1892 and Røvær Gravlund, which was established after a major shipwreck in 1901.
In addition to Nordre Hauge Gravlund, there is Søndre Hauge Gravlund, which was established in 1963. Udland Gravlund has undergone significant expansion and now covers an area of just under 40 acres, with space for 2,637 new graves and 526 new urn graves. The cemeteries in Haugesund also offer a memorial garden with capacity for those who want an alternative burial site.
