Søndre Hauge Cemetery is one of six cemeteries in Haugesund, established in 1963. The cemetery is part of the city's historic cemeteries, which include several other renowned cemeteries, including Vår Frelsers Gravlund, which is the largest and was established in 1911. Christine Elisabeths Gravlund, from 1892, and Røvær Gravlund, from 1901, also have their own history, linked to a major shipwreck.
Nordre Hauge Gravlund was established in 1876, while Udland Gravlund has undergone significant expansions and now covers an area of almost 40 acres. Following these expansions, 2,637 new graves and 526 new urn graves have been added. The cemeteries in Haugesund, including Søndre Hauge, also offer memorial groves, which provide an alternative for those who want a more open and natural burial ground.
