Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) is an iconic cliff plateau above Lysefjord in Strand municipality, close to Jørpeland. It rises 604 metres above the fjord and is widely seen as one of Norway’s signature natural landmarks. Most travellers plan access via Stavanger and the Ryfylke area.
The hike to Preikestolen is among Norway’s most famous and draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. The standard trail starts at Preikestolen Fjellstue and is about 4 km one way to the viewpoint. At the top, a broad, nearly flat rock surface opens to a dramatic Lysefjord panorama.
