Bredalsholmen Shipyard and Preservation Centre is a national ship preservation centre in Kristiansand, established for the restoration of protected and listed ships. The centre, which was established in 1876, is a protected cultural monument of great historical significance. Here, old craft traditions in steel shipbuilding are preserved, and there is active use of dry docks and associated workshops. The centre functions as a gathering point for veteran boats and vessels that are worth preserving.
With 25 employees with specialist expertise, Bredalsholmen offers a unique insight into technical and industrial cultural heritage. The facility is part of the history of Kristiansand Mekaniske Verksted and represents a living shipyard and cultural environment from 1958. The dock, which was built in 1876, is a central element in the operation, and crafts that have been in decline since the 1960s are practiced here.
