The telephone booth in Lillehammer is one of the protected cultural monuments in Norway, representing an important part of the country's history. The red telephone booths have been in use for over 85 years and have largely retained their original appearance. These kiosks have become an iconic symbol of Norwegian culture, and many Norwegians have nostalgic memories associated with them.
There are a total of 100 protected telephone booths in Norway, and the last kiosk with a dial tone was placed at Majorstua. Telenor Kulturarv is working to preserve these kiosks, and encourages creative ideas for their after-use, which can help give them a new function in society. The telephone booths stand as a testament to a time when telephone communication depended on physical installations, and they continue to be part of the Norwegian urban landscape.
