Funken Lodge is a boutique hotel on the hillside above Longyearbyen in the Svalbard archipelago, with panoramic views over the town, surrounding mountains and glaciers. Its historic building from the 1940s, once home to coal company staff, has been fully refurbished and turned into an âArctic oasisâ with an intimate atmosphere. Inside you will find bright rooms and suites with modern Scandinavian design, inviting lounges with a fireplace and a library of polar literature, as well as a restaurant and bar focusing on Nordic ingredients and a well-curated wine list. After days out on snowmobiles, glacier walks or boat safaris around Svalbard, it feels good to return to a warm lounge, look at the mountains through large windows and realise that an Arctic holiday can be not only harsh, but also very comfortable.
