Elkem Rana AS is a company established in 1989, located in an industrial area in Mo i Rana. The company specializes in the production of ferrosilicon, with nine grades of both special and standard products. The company has two FeSi furnaces with a total annual capacity of 90,000 tons. In addition, Elkem Rana AS produces 23,000 tons of Elkem Microsilica®.
Production at Elkem Rana AS is based on renewable hydropower, which contributes to sustainable operations. The excess heat from production is used for district heating in Mo i Rana, which provides an additional environmental benefit. In 2023, the world's first carbon capture pilot for smelters was inaugurated at the plant, which demonstrates the company's focus on innovative solutions.
