🎿 Narvik: ski community and evening lifts
This is a rare place where ‘after six’ is not just a figure of speech: the town is right next to the slopes, and the evening light over the fjord makes skiing special. Below is a brief, practical overview: are the lifts open on weekdays in winter, where to store your skis/snowboard, and how to get to the base without a car, including the bus from Evenes.
🏔️ Are the lifts open on weekday evenings in winter?
Yes. The typical resort schedule is evening hours on weekdays. In the early part of the season, it is usually 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekends; later in the season, weekdays are shifted to 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (check the current calendar — it changes depending on the date and weather). There are also extended days: according to guest reviews, skiing was available until 10:00 p.m. during certain periods. Official schedules are published on the resort's website. Please note: due to lift renovation work, the gondola and the upper part of the mountain will be closed from 23 May to 7 December 2025, after which the resort will return to its winter schedule.
🎒 Where can I store my equipment near the office/hotel?
The easiest option is at the foot of the slope: the Ski House (Basecamp) has lockers for skis/snowboards, poles, boots and helmets; the code and access are provided by the reception.
Basecamp guests have access to their own ski shed with boot dryers. If you need to leave your belongings in town, there are automatic lockers (labelled Storage Boxes) at the railway station, which are usually open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
🚌 How to get there without a car?
From the centre to the base. The easiest option is the city bus: from the Rådhuset stop, take line 1 to Fjellveien, then walk about 10 minutes up Skistuaveien. You can also take line 2 to Bregnetunet. A taxi from the centre takes 4–5 minutes, and it is a 25–40-minute walk uphill. For clarity, there is a route map.
From Evenes Airport (EVE). Take Flybussen FB82 (Boreal), which takes about 75 minutes. Schedules and tickets are available on the Flybussen website and in the airport section of Avinor; it departs and arrives directly at the terminal.
Everything fits together nicely here: a day at work and then straight to the slopes, where the lifts run until late on weekdays. Leave your equipment in lockers at Ski House or in the Basecamp storage room, and if you need a ‘city’ solution, there are boxes at the station. Getting there without a car is easy: the city bus from Rådhuset will take you to the right stop in a few minutes, and there is a direct Flybussen service from Evenes.
