🏙️ Coworking spaces in Stavanger: oil and gas and startup hubs
In the ‘oil capital’, everything is close by: the harbour and city centre for quick meetings, Hinnaparken and Forus for corporate sessions, and the UiS campus for R&D. Below is a short, practical guide: where to go for a one-day team sprint, what are the ‘shift’ rates, and how to get there by public transport without unnecessary logistics.
👥 Where is the best place for a one-day team session?
- Innoasis (Sverdrups gate 27, city centre). An urban hub from Nordic Edge: there is a team format for meetings (the price includes Wi-Fi, coffee/tea, access to meeting rooms and community activities) — convenient for project days ‘from scratch to result’. There is also a day pass for solo work.
- Innovation Dock (Bryggerikaien 12–24, by the water). A showcase view of the sea and venues for workshops/conferences, plus flexible meeting room rental by the hour or day — the perfect ‘offline meetup by the pier.’
- FOMO Works (Forus/Sandnes). Large spaces with meeting rooms — good if your team revolves around a cluster of energy companies; the aggregator offers day passes and hourly meeting rooms.
- Regus (Stavanger/Forus). A versatile option: meeting rooms and day offices can be booked by the day or hour; convenient for formal tracks and confcols.
If you need an R&D context close to UiS, check out Innovation Park Stavanger (Ullandhaug) — the park's address is on campus, with co-working blocks and infrastructure around Validé.
🛳️ Are there any discounts for offshore workers between shifts?
There are almost no separate ‘offshore discounts’ advertised on the websites of the venues, but there are flexible formats that are usually more advantageous for irregular employment:
- Regus Coworking Membership for 5/10/unlimited days per month — pay for actual visits, plus you can take Day Coworking/day office on an ad hoc basis.
- Scandic Coworking (a chain of hotels, including in the city and on Forus): 199 NOK/day with breakfast or 99 NOK/day without, weekly/monthly options available; the package includes Wi-Fi, quiet areas and a print & copy service — convenient for the gaps between shifts.
- Innoasis day pass — 375 NOK/day on weekdays; for mini-teams — their Team package.
- FOMO — according to the aggregator, day passes and inexpensive small meeting rooms by the hour are available; convenient for short slots in Forus.
Tip: if you are ‘between flights,’ check corporate plans (bedrift) directly — many venues offer custom packages for teams from the energy sector, but do not publish them in their price lists. For a one-off ‘official’ meeting, book a meeting room/day office at Regus or a room at Innovation Dock.
🚌 How to get there without a car?
- From the airport (SVG) to the city centre. The easiest way is to take the Flybussen: it runs almost all day, 25–30 minutes to the railway station/bus hub in the city centre.
- To Hinnapark (Jåttåvågen). From the train station, take the local Go-Ahead electric train (Kolumbus tickets are also valid on the train) — ~7 minutes to Jåttåvågen station; 1 minute walk from the office buildings. Alternatively, there are frequent city buses.
- To Forus. Direct buses Kolumbus, including line 3 ‘Forus via Stavanger’; run frequently, convenient for daytime sessions.
- To the UiS / Innovation Park campus. Take city routes to Ullandhaug; the park itself is located at Professor Olav Hanssens vei 7A (landmark near HelseCampus).
Life hack: for a hybrid day, combine the ‘centre’ (Innoasis/Innovation Dock) in the morning and Forus/Hinna in the afternoon — public transport closes in both directions without taxis. Plan your trip using the Kolumbus app
For a ‘team day,’ go to Innoasis (city centre, ready-made packages) or Innovation Dock (sea view and great workshop spaces); if you're closer to the energy cluster, FOMO (Forus) and Regus with convenient hourly booking will come in handy. Between shifts, it's easiest to live on a day pass/5–10 days a month or at the Scandic hotel co-working space. It's easy to get there without a car: Flybussen → city centre, electric train to Jåttåvågen and buses to Forus/Ullandhaug.
