🏠 Student accommodation: application, waiting list and room inspection

📝 Application and priorities

Student housing is managed by samskipnader:

SiO (Oslo),

Sammen (Bergen),

Sit (Trondheim),

Samskipnaden (Tromsø).

To obtain a room:

  1. Submit your application online 3–6 months before the start of the semester.
  2. Specify your preferred type of accommodation (corridor room, studio, family flat).
  3. Pay the semesteravgift — this is a condition for access to services.

Priorities:

● international students,

● first-year students,

● students with special needs.

⏳ Queue and deadlines

The queue operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

● "first come, first served",

● priority groups are processed first,

● demand is highest in the summer, so it is worth applying in the spring for August.

📌 If there are not enough places, the "Roof Over Your Head" system (in Trondheim and Bergen) is activated — temporary accommodation in hostels.

🔍 Room inspection checklist

When checking in, it is important to record the condition of the room.

● Take photos and videos before moving in.

● Check the furniture, windows, and plumbing.

● Check the smoke detectors and locks.

● Record the meter readings.

● Note any defects in the acceptance report.

💳 Deposit account

● The deposit is kept in a separate bank account.

● Never transfer the deposit to the personal cards of the owners or employees.

● The money is returned after departure, provided that the room is in order.

📌 For students from the EU/EEA, banks open deposit accounts with a passport; for non-EU students, a D-nummer may be required.

📝 Room inspection checklist

  • 🚿 Inspect plumbing
  • 🔒 Test locks and alarm system
  • 🔥 Ensure smoke detectors are working
  • ⚡ Record meter readings
  • 📄 Note defects in the handover report

📌 How the housing queue works

  1. Submit an online application to SiO / Sammen / Sit
  2. Pay the semester fee (semesteravgift)
  3. Enter the queue (priorities are considered)
  4. Receive a housing offer
  5. Confirm and sign the contract

We are thrilled to tell you about the incredible accommodation options available to students! SiO, Sammen and Sit are the best choices, offering unbeatable value for money and fantastic support from Samskiprada. The best time to apply is in the summer, because demand is highest at this time. It is also a good idea to check the queue and record the condition of the room.

📌 Here's a great tip: open a separate deposit account and keep all your documents in there. This will protect you from financial risks.

FAQ

❓ When is the best time to apply?

In spring — if you plan to move in August. The earlier you apply, the higher your chances are.

❓ Can I change my block or room after check-in?

Yes, but it depends on availability and the internal queue.

❓ What should I do if I find any defects?

Report them immediately and include them in the report. This way, your deposit will not be withheld when you check out.
