Here are some handy safety tips for beginners!

  • Start with short routes: When you're just starting out, it's always a good idea to pick short distances to help you get used to the kayak and the water.
  • Weather: And don't forget to check the forecast before you head out! It's always best to avoid going out in strong winds or storm warnings.
  • And remember, stay close to the shore. It's always best for beginners to stay close to the shore.
  • Group and guide: When you're planning your first trip, it's always a good idea to go with an experienced guide or group.

Perfect stops along the routes

I totally get it, you're a beginner and you're wondering how to dress for kayaking.

  • I know it can be tempting to just put on your warmest clothes and hope for the best, but I would really recommend wearing several layers of clothing to help you keep warm.
  • I would really recommend using thermal underwear that dries quickly and retains heat.
  • And please, please, please – always wear a life jacket, even if you feel confident in the water.
  • Don't forget to bring a hat, a buff and gloves! Even in summer, it can get a bit chilly on the water, so it's best to be prepared.
