We travelled around the country in the spring and summer of 2025 and selected the twenty best options in three key areas — Geirangerfjord, Sognefjord, Hardangerfjord — plus a couple of hidden gems on the northern arms.

When and how to book to avoid missing out on a fjord balcony?📆🔑

Front-facing rooms are booked 6–9 months in advance. Choose the "Flexible 30" rate (+€20) with 30-day cancellation. If it's too late, try:
● wait for a cancellation drop (7–3 days before arrival);
● write to the hotel – sometimes they keep 2–3 rooms offline;

Most hotels have free parking; parking is limited in Geiranger, so reserve a space in advance. Without a car: take the Oslo–Flåm train + boat to Sogndal for Kviknes/Walaker; bus VY450 to Øye.

● Shooting at sunrise — better contrast, fewer people.
● Steadicam or mini tripod — stormy winds.
● A 3-stop ND filter will give you "silky" water with an exposure of 1–2 seconds.
