🚨 Noise, Transfers, Early Check-in: Norway Stay FAQ 🛎️

Even when you have planned everything, things can still go wrong. For example, your flight arrives after midnight, your upstairs neighbour is playing loud music, and the receptionist tells you that you have been moved to a different room because there are too many people staying at the hotel. There are clear rules for Norwegian hotels and apartments. Tourist services are quick to respond. It is important to know who to call and what links to refer to. This "emergency" FAQ lists 10 typical situations, from early check-in to emergency medical assistance and lost luggage. Each item has a service phone number, a link to the relevant laws and advice on how to save time or money. The information was checked between May and July 2025 by Hotell- og Restauranterarbeiderforbundet (the Norwegian hotel workers' union), Avinor, Vy and NHO Reiseliv. Save this article to your bookmarks — we update it every three months.

😡 Noisy neighbours after 10 p.m. — what to do?

  • Hotels: call "Reception / 0". The night auditor is required to issue a verbal warning, and if the noise continues, they will evict the guests or call støyvakt (noise patrol).
  • Apartments: record a video ≤ 30 seconds, send it to the host in the chat + platform (Airbnb/Booking). Noise > 55 dB after 10 p.m. = compensation of up to 25% of the rate.
  • Police phone number: 02800 (non-emergency) / 112 (emergency). The offender will be fined 1,500–2,500 NOK, which will be deducted from the deposit.

🛏️ Early check-in / late check-out — is it possible?

  • Thon & Scandic chains: Early check-in 10:00 / Late check-out 14:00 — NOK 200, free for Gold loyalty members.
  • Boutique hotels: write 48 hours in advance, chance ≈ 60% on weekdays, 30% during peak season.
  • Apartments with a code lock: you can enter if cleaning is finished — check in the chat; otherwise, the owner will be fined.

✈️ My flight has been delayed, I'll arrive at 02:00 — how do I get there?

  • Flytoget (Oslo): last train at 01:10; after that, take the night bus FB5 (120 NOK).
  • Bergen Airport Flybussen: 24 hours on Fridays; otherwise, take a taxi — fixed fare 520 NOK.
  • Call a taxi using the VippsTaxi app — no night surcharge. Keep the receipt — part of the insurance covers delays of > 3 hours.

🏨 The hotel is overbooked. What are my rights?

According to § 19 Forskrift om hotell- og pensionatdrift, the hotel is obliged to:

  1. Provide a room of the same or higher class in another hotel.
  2. Pay for the transfer.
  3. Compensate for the difference in meals.

Request written confirmation and a taxi receipt; photograph the alternative fare. If refused, call 02800 (consumer service) or make your own reservation and keep the receipts for a charge-back.

🎒 Lost luggage, and warm shoes are needed tomorrow

  • Fill out the PIR form at Avinor. The standard delivery time for found luggage to the hotel is 6–24 hours.
  • Buy essentials (clothing, toiletries) up to NOK 6,000; photo of receipt → airline will refund within 30 days.
  • Equipment rental: Sport 1 Rental (Oslo S) 300 NOK/day.

🚑 Emergency medical assistance

  • Legevakt 116 117 — 24 hours a day, English menu.
  • EU/EHIC insurance covers "necessary treatment"; present your card.
  • Apotek 1 pharmacies are on duty until midnight (Oslo, Bergen).
  • Private Covid/flu test — 650 NOK, results in 15 minutes, order via the Dr.Dropin app.

🚆 E-18 traffic jam / Vy train cancelled — how to get to the plane?

  • Vy Flex — train ticket is rebooked for the next flight at no extra charge.
  • Nettbuss Lavprisekspressen: if cancelled, you will receive a voucher, but not a taxi.
  • Have a Plan B — Flybussen bus or Hyre car sharing; 1 hour to OSL ≈ 280 NOK + petrol. Keep your receipt — travel insurance often covers missed connections.

🌪Black ice/storm 12 m/s — accommodation cancels reservations

  • Force Majeure applies, but the host is obliged to refund 100% of the payment.
  • VisitNorway Live Chat (08:00–20:00 CET) will help you find a replacement.
  • Is the new accommodation more expensive? Keep your receipts — trip disruption insurance covers the difference up to NOK 1,500 per night.

📶 Wi-Fi is down and I need a Zoom call

  • Ask reception/host for a backup SSID. Thon has a 50 Mbps Meetings network.
  • Telenor mobile eSIM "Fri Data 1 Dag" 49 NOK — 10 GB 4G, enough for HD calls.
  • Try 2.4 GHz instead of 5 GHz via your router settings (often a freer channel).

💳 In the morning, we noticed unauthorised charges on our card

  • The deposit block is displayed as "Pending". Check with your bank.
  • If the charge was made without your consent, immediately contact the platform chat + your bank (charge-back).
  • Norwegian Card Payment Act § 34 — 90 days to dispute. Request a detailed receipt from the hotel.

Force majeure situations do happen, but Norway has clear "SOS buttons" — the hotelier will resolve the issue, Avinor will deliver lost luggage, and the law requires that guests be relocated in the event of overbooking.
