8 money-saving tips

  1. Book well in advance, at least two to three months before you plan to travel. There is a lot of demand in the summer; if you book early you can save up to 35%.
  2. Compare aggregators (Discover Cars, Rentalcars) with the direct websites of Hertz/Avis — the difference can be as much as 15%.
  3. Be open to changing your travel dates. In October, you will pay around 56% less than you would in July.
  4. Choose Pay-Now/Prepaid rates to get a 10-20% discount, but the amount you pay cannot be refunded.
  5. You can also save money by not using GPS and by bringing your own child seats.
  6. Only use one driver. Each extra driver costs 40–60 NOK per day.
  7. There will be photos taken when you pick up and drop off. Taking detailed photos can stop you from getting into trouble with false claims.
  8. Fill up yourself. A "prepaid tank" is almost always more expensive than the actual price.
Season What is required
Winter (1 Nov – 1st Sunday after Easter) Winter tyres (included), brush and scraper, snow chains — check availability
Summer AutoPASS tag (for toll roads), child seat if under required height

Things to remember before you pay:

  • I check that I am the right age and have enough experience to drive in the category that I have chosen.
  • I can see how much money is in my account and how much I can spend.
  • I read the excess amount and decide if I need Super CDW.
  • Please check when the office is open and the late return policy.
  • Download the EasyPark and Vegvesen Trafikk apps to pay for parking and tolls.
