- The minimum age to rent a car is usually 19. Younger drivers are not allowed to sign a contract.
- Young drivers aged 19 to 25 pay a "young driver fee" of around 100 NOK per day.

8 money-saving tips
- Book well in advance, at least two to three months before you plan to travel. There is a lot of demand in the summer; if you book early you can save up to 35%.
- Compare aggregators (Discover Cars, Rentalcars) with the direct websites of Hertz/Avis — the difference can be as much as 15%.
- Be open to changing your travel dates. In October, you will pay around 56% less than you would in July.
- Choose Pay-Now/Prepaid rates to get a 10-20% discount, but the amount you pay cannot be refunded.
- You can also save money by not using GPS and by bringing your own child seats.
- Only use one driver. Each extra driver costs 40–60 NOK per day.
- There will be photos taken when you pick up and drop off. Taking detailed photos can stop you from getting into trouble with false claims.
- Fill up yourself. A "prepaid tank" is almost always more expensive than the actual price.
