No parking fines: city rules and the EasyPark app
Discover the amazing importance of parking!
In Norway, if you have a parking ticket that has expired, you can expect to be fined anywhere from 810 to 1,100 NOK. And if you park in a restricted zone, you can expect to pay even more! Most streets have now switched to the convenient and eco-friendly option of paperless payment via apps, making it easy for everyone to contribute to a greener future. Paper tickets are a thing of the past! So, the key to a stress-free trip is to pick the perfect zone, make the most of your time, and find a place to park for free at night.
City | Zone | Rate (day 06:00–23:00) | Rate (night 23:00–06:00) | Late-payment penalty |
---|---|---|---|---|
Oslo | Sentrum (Zone 4100) | 59 NOK | 18 NOK | 810 NOK |
Oslo | Ring 2 (Zone 3300) | 38 NOK | 0 NOK | 810 NOK |
Bergen | Red | 45 NOK | 18 NOK | 900 NOK |
Bergen | Yellow | 30 NOK | 0 NOK | 900 NOK |
Trondheim | Midtbyen A | 42 NOK | 16 NOK | 810 NOK |
Stavanger | Blue | 35 NOK | 0 NOK | 810 NOK |
🌙 Night-time tip: In most municipalities the rate is zero between 23:00 and 06:00, but the area must be non-residential (type “Beboer”).
EasyPark – step-by-step guide
- Download the app (iOS/Android) and register via email or Vipps.
- Add your car number and bank card. For rentals, save a scan of the contract — it helps in case of disputes.
- Enter the zone:
○ either enter the 4-digit code from the sign,
○ or tap "Find parking" – GPS will show you the nearest zones and prices.
- Select the time: the app immediately calculates the fare and service fee (usually 10% or a minimum of 4 NOK).
- Extend/end: the "Extend" button extends the time, "Stop" ends it. If you leave early, the unused time will be refunded.
- Receipt: keep the PDF receipt until the end of your trip — you may need it for the rental company.
Tip: in settings > "Fee level", select "Low Fee" — the commission is lower, but you will have to confirm transactions with your BankID/Vipps code.
Night parking and green benefits
- We are thrilled to announce an incredible EV discount: electric vehicles receive an amazing 50% discount or 0 NOK in areas marked "EV/EL". In EasyPark, these areas are coloured green, making it easy for you to find the perfect spot!
- Resident streets ("Beboer") We are delighted to announce that overnight parking in residential areas is now permitted! All you need is a resident sticker and you're good to go! Keep your eyes peeled for a round sign with the letter P and the text Beboerparkering.
- Great news: on Saturdays after 3 p.m. and on Sundays, the rate is 0 NOK in many city centres! To be on the safe side, launch EasyPark — the app will show "Free" and you're all set!
City | Metro / Bybanen / Tram | Price for 24 hours | Bonus |

Oslo | Haugerud P+R (T-bane 2) | 40 NOK | 15 min to the city centre |
Oslo | Furuset P-pl | 35 NOK | Type 2 charging is free |
Bergen | Lagunen P+R (Bybanen) | 30 NOK | 23 min to Bryggen |
Trondheim | Leangen station | 25 NOK | Bus 12 min to Midtbyen |
Stavanger | Jåttåvågen (Jernbane) | Free | 9 min to centre by Go-Ahead trains |
🚏 The rule is simple: buy a public transport ticket and your daily parking is covered by the ticket price or a nominal fee.
Six common mistakes that lead to fines
- Incorrect zone code – a unique challenge in Oslo, where neighbouring streets have different numbers, creating an exciting opportunity to explore the city's unique layout.
- Just a quick reminder to check your settings after replacing your rental car, as there is an incorrect car number in your profile.
- "But I paid for the ticket!" The great thing about paper tickets is that they work in a few machines. It's also really handy that inspectors check the EasyPark database.
- Here's a great tip: turn off the engine but leave the headlights on! The police will issue a fine for "unexpected lighting" of residential buildings (650 NOK).
- Don't worry about "Miljøsone" – the eco-zone in central Oslo is a great place for eco-conscious drivers! When there is a "red alert" for smog, diesel cars not meeting Euro 6 standards are prohibited, so you can be sure you're doing your bit for the planet.
- Extension after expiry: make sure you extend before the time expires, and you won't have to worry about a fine from the inspector!
