I'm curious: is there any nightlife at all above the Arctic Circle?

Oh, absolutely! Northern Norway's nightlife might not be as vibrant as that in Oslo or Bergen, but it's got its own special charm. Here, you'll find all sorts of charming places to enjoy. Think of it as a getaway where you can indulge in cosy bars, lively clubs with live music, and pubs where you can relax and unwind to the soothing sounds of live music. And let's not forget the incredible experience of watching the awe-inspiring Northern Lights.

Where are the best bars and clubs in Lofoten?

If you're looking for a fun night out, then the most popular places in Lofoten are the towns of Svolvær, Henningsvær and Leknes.

  • Bacalao (Svolvær) is a really lovely bar with live music, a super friendly atmosphere and a beautiful view of the sea.
  • Trevarefabrikken (Henningsvær) is a really cool place where you can have fun and relax. It's a trendy bar, club and cultural space, and they often put on concerts and parties there.

Which bars are worth visiting in Tromsø?

  • Tromsø is one of the most active cities in Northern Norway:
  • Hey, why not pay a visit to the Rorbua Pub? It's a really great place with a fun northern theme and a great selection of local drinks.
  • Hey, why not come and join us at the Blårock Café? We're a cosy bar with live music, and we're totally passionate about rock and blues!
  • Ølhallen is the oldest pub in town, and it's a really cosy place to enjoy a traditional atmosphere and a wide selection of local beers.

Are there any nightclubs in Bodø?

Bodø has several venues, which is great!

  • Hey, I just wanted to let you know about this cool place called Dama Di. It's a really popular nightclub with a great vibe, and they play all kinds of modern music. Plus, they have these awesome themed parties that are so much fun!
  • The Public Bar & Scene is a place where you can enjoy live music, DJ sets and meet all kinds of people.

I'd absolutely love to combine nightlife with viewing the Northern Lights. Do you think that's possible?

If you're planning a picnic, it's a really good idea to choose a venue with panoramic views of the sky. I would love to show you some of the lovely bars and restaurants we have here. We've got some great places with terraces and big windows where you can sit and look up at the sky while you have a drink. Some clubs organise special parties for viewing the aurora, which is a really special experience.

What is the dress code in northern bars and clubs?

Hey, just so you know, the dress code is way more relaxed in the north than it is in the south. We're a casual and comfortable clothing kind of place, so you can feel right at home if you're wearing something warm and cosy, especially in winter. However, in some establishments (Tromsø, Bodø), you might be pleasantly surprised if you dress a little casually on the weekends.

What are the opening hours of bars and clubs above the Arctic Circle?

Most bars are open until around midnight (00:00–01:00), so there's plenty of time to enjoy yourself! Don't worry if you're not sure when the clubs are open, as they usually open at 10pm and close at 2.30am or 3am. And don't worry about getting here – our opening hours are sometimes longer at the weekend and during festivals, so you can always find us!

Are there any night-time events and festivals in northern Norway?

Oh, absolutely! The Northern Lights festivals, night-time concerts and winter events such as the Arctic Light Festival and Nordlysfestivalen in Tromsø are so popular! You know, these events are just so popular with tourists, and they really bring a special vibe to the nightlife, don't they?

I was wondering if it's expensive to go out in Lofoten and Northern Norway?

I totally get it, prices are a bit higher than in mainland Europe, but they're in the same ballpark as southern Norway. You'll be pleased to know that drinks usually cost between NOK 80 and NOK 150 for a glass of beer or a cocktail. Club entry is usually just 100–150 NOK, which is super affordable!

What else is there to do at night in Lofoten and Northern Norway besides clubs?

If you prefer a quieter break, why not try night-time hunting for the Northern Lights, dog sledding under the stars, evening snowshoe walks, or visiting evening spa complexes with panoramic views of the mountains and fjords?

When it comes to nightlife, Lofoten and Northern Norway are a whole different ball game compared to the traditional entertainment venues of southern cities. You're going to love the unique combination of nature, culture and that special northern atmosphere here!
