The blue orange Kanvas kindergarten was opened in 2007 and has the capacity to receive 12 children under the age of 3 and 49 children over the age of 3. The nursery has a pedagogue density of 50 per cent, and staff includes both pedagogues, assistants and skilled workers. The nursery is organized in zones with age groups, which contributes to a safe and inclusive psychosocial environment for the children.
Emphasis is placed on continuous development of both the indoor and outdoor environment to create opportunities for varied play and learning. The nursery carries out weekly trips that are adapted to the children's age and group dynamics. In addition, they have a separate scheme for pre-school children, which follows the guidelines from Kanvas. Play is a central part of everyday life, and the nursery focuses on promoting children's development through an inclusive and diverse environment.
Kanvas is Norway's largest kindergarten foundation with non-profit purposes, and has 66 kindergartens in operation. The foundation's aim is to improve children's growing up conditions and parents' everyday life by offering quality nurseries with competent staff. At Kanvas, it is a goal that at least half of the employees have nursery teacher training, and great emphasis is placed on professional development and innovative thinking in the nursery sector.
