Preståsen Kanvas kindergarten was established in 1990 and is located in a residential area with little traffic. The nursery has four departments with creative names: Hakkebakkeskogen, Mattisborgen, Lønneberget and Kardemommeby. Great emphasis is placed on active use of the local environment, with weekly trips to forests and nearby areas. The staff group is stable and experienced, with versatile competence, and there is a special focus on the development of pre-lingual children.
As part of Kanvas, Norway's largest non-profit daycare foundation, Preståsen contributes to improving children's upbringing and parents' everyday life. The nursery is approved as an apprenticeship company for the child and youth worker profession, and at least half of the employees have nursery teacher training. Kanvas promotes equality, diversity and tolerance, and all employees receive regular professional training. Through participation in research and development projects, as well as dissemination of knowledge via courses and conferences, Kanvas contributes to innovation and development in the nursery sector.
