Vestre gravlund is a military cemetery that houses memorials for war victims, including 23 Dutch soldiers buried in Oslo. The cemetery includes military personnel from the Royal Navy and Merchant Navy, and many of these victims were evacuated from the Ravensbrück and Neuengamme concentration camps during the Second World War. One of the well-known stories from the cemetery is about Bernard Schoonbeek, who was one of the evacuees and died of typhus.

The Graveyard offers opportunities to adopt grave sites, giving individuals and groups the opportunity to care for the memory of those who have fallen. In addition, commemorative ceremonies and pilgrimages are organized, which help to preserve the history of war and peace. Vestre gravlund also has a focus on education, with access to artefacts and publications related to war, which can be of use to those who want to learn more about this part of history.
