Målekontoret Byggfag was founded in 1885 and has as its main focus organizing craftsmen within the construction industry. The organization represents a number of professional groups, including carpenters, joiners, roofers, plumbers, glaziers and fitters. Over the years, Målekontoret Byggfag has worked to promote the interests of its members and ensure good working conditions.
In 1994, Stiftelsen Byggfag was established to manage funds from the sale of holiday homes, which has contributed to strengthening the organisation's financial basis. In 2005, the Stockmann Hammer Prize was established to promote freedom of expression in the construction industry. Målekontoret Byggfag also offers activities and courses for its members, as well as being involved in chord measurement, which is an important part of the work process in the industry.
