Grete Waitz's place is located at the southern gate of Bislett Stadium, known as the "Maraton Gate". The space, which was previously known as "Maratonplassen", was named after the renowned long-distance runner Grete Waitz in 2016. This name honors her significant contribution to athletics and her status as one of Norway's most famous athletes.
A prominent part of the square is the statue of Grete Waitz, which was made by the artist Nils Aas. The statue was unveiled by Queen Sonja in 1984 and was later moved to its current location after the naming. Grete Waitz' place is bounded by Bislettgata and Sofies gate, and serves as a memorial for both sports and culture in the area.
