Hjemmets Kolonihager is located on Bjølsen, between Voldsløkka Sports Complex and Bjølsenparken. The colony gardens were established in 1912 by Ole Sundø, who was director of the weekly magazine "Hjemmet". The area includes Norway's most famous cottage, Portveien 2, and currently has 109 gardeners who contribute to the community and the maintenance of the garden.
The members participate in joint work and can also take on tasks as café hosts. During the season, "Lille Café" offers coffee, waffles and soft drinks. There is a garden calendar for organizing joint tasks, and members share garden stories, which contributes to an active and engaged environment.
