Gol Stave Church is a medieval wooden church with original carvings and paintings, which has been rebuilt into an open-air museum. The museum, which is the largest and oldest in Europe, houses 160 buildings ranging from the Middle Ages to modern times. Here, visitors can explore exhibitions that shed light on daily life and living conditions in Norway throughout the ages.
In addition to the historic buildings, the museum offers a number of services. Café Arkadia provides the opportunity for a break, while the shop has a selection of Norwegian and Nordic craft products. Tours are organized for schools, kindergartens and universities, and it is also possible to hire function rooms for weddings. The Norwegian Folk Museum's Dance Group offers trial lessons, and there are themed pages for learning about Norwegian history, which makes the place a resource for both visitors and learners.
