The Islamic Council of Norway, known as Islamsk Råd Norge (IRN), functions as an umbrella organization for Islamic religious communities and organizations in the country. With 33 member organisations, IRN represents a significant part of the Muslim population in Norway, with close to 65,000 members. The organization aims to promote cooperation and community among Muslims, as well as to engage in social issues and political matters that affect the Muslim population.
IRN offers various resources, including standardization of the Hijri calendar and prayer times, as well as halal certification. In addition, the organization participates in international debates on human rights and works to ensure that halal standards are maintained. They also provide information and support in connection with religious holidays, which helps to strengthen the religious community among Muslims in Norway.
