Ridehuset stage, established in 1818, is known as Norway's largest professional brass band. The orchestra is based at Akershus Fortress and has a long tradition in military music. As the Norwegian Armed Forces' most important representative orchestra, they participate in a number of international festivals and tattoos, which contributes to promoting Norwegian culture and musical tradition on a global arena.
In addition to its international assignments, Ridehuset stage performs regular assignments for the royal house, the Storting and the government. They also have an important role during national celebrations, such as when they walk at the front of the capital's children's procession on 17 May. In the summer, they are known for their popular guard parades at the changing of the guard at the Royal Castle, which attract both locals and tourists.
