French War Memorial, also known as Monument aux Morts pour la France or French War Memorial, is a memorial that has historical significance from both the First and Second World Wars. The facility includes a burial ground for fallen Commonwealth soldiers, where the graves are marked with individual gravestones in white Portland stone. At the back of the burial ground stands the Cross of Sacrifice, which was unveiled in 1949, and which symbolizes the memory of those who have sacrificed their lives in war.
In addition to the Commonwealth soldiers' burial ground, the memorial also contains a separate Soviet soldiers' burial ground, which was laid out in 1947. The burial ground has several free-standing monuments that help to remember those who have fallen in the service of their countries. Grave relocations have also taken place, which further emphasizes the historical importance of this place.
