Trygve Lie was a prominent Norwegian politician and diplomat, known as the UN's first Secretary-General. He was born in Kristiania and grew up in Grorud. During his career he was a central figure in the Labor Party, where he also held several ministerial posts. Lie married Hjørdis Alette Fredrikke Jørgensen in 1921, and he was the father-in-law of Jens-Halvard Bratz, a well-known industrial leader and former Minister of Industry.
In 1994, a statue of Trygve Lie was unveiled at the Furuset centre, as a tribute to his contribution both nationally and internationally. He died on 30 December 1968, but his legacy lives on through the institutions and values he helped shape.
