Future Library Forest is a unique book project that combines literature with environmental awareness. The project involves the planting of a thousand trees in Nordmarka, which will provide paper for a special anthology of books to be printed in 2114. Each year an author contributes a text that is kept secret until publication. Among the contributing authors are well-known names such as Margaret Atwood, David Mitchell and Elif Shafak.
The manuscripts from the authors will be kept in a specially designed room in the new public library in Oslo, and will remain unread and unpublished until the specified year. The project explores existential themes and has an artistic approach to both literature and sustainability. The books to be printed will be made from paper from the trees planted as part of this initiative.
