Bergdammen is a nature reserve in Oslo whose main focus is to monitor and rebuild the biological diversity in the area. Since 1988/89, historical documentation of wildlife has been carried out, with particular emphasis on amphibians, especially salamanders. The reserve plays an important role in the conservation of red-listed species in Oslo, and action plans have been developed to counteract species extinctions.
The area has no natural flow in the pond, which provides a stable habitat for the local species. The vegetation is evenly distributed, which contributes to a varied ecosystem. The assessment of the salamander density in Bergdammen has been given a score of 7 out of 10 points, which indicates a healthy population of these amphibians. Bergdammen is therefore an important area for research and conservation of biological diversity in the region.
